About Canada Post

Canada Post is a crown corporation in Canada responsible for providing postal services to all Canadians. It was founded in 1867 and operates a vast network of postal service outlets, processing centers, and delivery vehicles. Canada Post offers a range of shipping, mailing, and courier services to customers across the country, including individuals, governments, and businesses. The corporation also manages the country's national addressing system and provides financial services through its subsidiary companies.

Canada Post Tracking Number

Canada Post provides tracking numbers for its customers to track their packages and parcels. Tracking numbers are unique identifiers assigned to each item being shipped through Canada Post. The tracking number can be found on your receipt or copy of the shipping label if you have a domestic item delivered within Canada.

For domestic items delivered within Canada (excluding prepaid envelopes and labels), the tracking number consists of 16 numbers, such as "1111 1111 1111 1111". If you ordered your item online, you may find the tracking number in a shipping confirmation email from the sender.

For items delivered to the U.S. and internationally, as well as prepaid envelopes and labels, the tracking number consists of 13 characters that include letters and numbers, such as "AA 111 111 111 AA" or “AB123456789CD”. You can find the tracking number on your receipt or copy of the shipping label.

What if You Don't Have a Tracking Number

If you have lost your tracking number or haven't received it yet, you can contact the sender of the item to request the tracking number for it. Additionally, if senders create reference numbers for some items, you can contact the sender to request the unique number or description. If a reference number is available for your item, you may find it in the shipping confirmation email from the sender. When you track using a reference number, Canada Post may ask for the destination postal code to identify your item.

Additional Ways to Track Your Package

You can also track an item using a delivery notice card number, which is a 15-digit number found above the barcode on your delivery notice card. However, delivery notice card numbers are applicable only for items delivered in Canada.

Xpresspost

Xpresspost is a shipping service offered by Canada Post that provides fast and cost-effective delivery across Canada. It offers next-day and 2-day shipping options, with tracking available for all items. The delivery times are guaranteed, and the delivery status can be checked online.

Xpresspost comes with several included features, such as the ability to track packages using a unique tracking number. Customers can receive email notifications or use the mobile app to track their shipments. Customers also have peace of mind with the on-time guarantee, which provides replacement service or credit equivalent to the shipping charges if the parcel does not arrive on time. Each package comes with an automatic $100 liability coverage, but customers can purchase additional liability coverage for valuable parcels.

There are several paid options available in Xpresspost, including:

  • 1. Signature

The signature option ensures that a signature is obtained when the item is delivered. This can help you to verify the identity of the receiver and confirm that the item has been successfully delivered.

  • 2. Hard copy signature

With this option, you can receive a hard copy of the signature that was obtained upon delivery. This provides you with an extra level of proof that the item was delivered and received by the intended recipient.

  • 3. Additional liability coverage

This option allows you to increase the amount of compensation you will receive if your item is lost, damaged, or stolen during transit. Coverage up to $5,000 is available, subject to terms and conditions.

  • 4. Collect on delivery (COD)

This service allows you to collect payment from the recipient before the shipment is delivered. Canada Post will collect up to $5,000 by credit card or up to $1,000 cash on your behalf. This service is available only within Canada.

  • 5. Return to sender

If the receiver has moved or the address is incomplete or doesn’t exist, the parcel will be returned to you. This service is included in the standard Xpresspost package.
