Domain

A domain is the identity or address of your eCommerce business that helps your customers reach you easily. It is the most important identity for an eCommerce brand that lets customers get a first impression of the brand and its associated products and services. Your domain name should be either brandable or discoverable to make an impact in the industry.

A domain name is made of three components:

levels-of-domain

Subdomain: A subdomain is the main or root domain. For example, www (Stands for world wide web)

Second-level domain (SLD): SLD is the domain below the top-level domain or TLD that arguably is an essential part of a domain name. It is a part of the domain that people will remember the most and around which a business builds its brand.

Top-level domain (TLD): It is the next highest level in the domain name hierarchy that follows immediately after the second-level domain. It is also known as domain extension and conveys different meanings about your website. Examples of the most popular TLDs are — .com, .net, .org, etc.

Purchasing a domain name is the first step in creating an online presence for a business and is one of the most important decisions you’ll make for your business.
