User Interface (UI)

A website’s user interface (UI) is every visual element through which the user interacts with it. This term covers aspects of a website such as menu options, embedded hyperlinks, images, videos, and forms.

The simpler and more appealing a website’s UI is, the more likely users will enjoy their time on it. This is important as it will improve the likelihood of them completing a purchase and returning for further visits.

A well-planned UI is simple and intuitive. Any user will be able to go where they want to with minimal steps and find what they are looking for with no fuss. The key is to ensure that every page on a website flows naturally into the next. This can be done by:

  • Clearly labeling and sorting all pages
  • Utilizing a simple list menu
  • Having an easily visible search bar
  • Offering help options

User interfaces must be made accessible to all kinds of customers. Traditional menu-driven interfaces are the standard for web pages, but many sites have had to adapt with the advent of mobile technology.

Web pages must be designed to appear coherent and visible on smaller screens, such as smart devices. This requires additional planning and testing to ensure that all aspects of the pages, such as text, images, and colors, are formatted to show up correctly.

Further, touch and voice controls are also a necessity, as these will allow inclusivity and ease of use for customers.
